About the Town of Pine Bluffs
Pine Bluffs is located in the extreme southeast corner of Wyoming.
The pine-covered bluffs south of town were on an ancient Native American footpath. Tipi rings on the bluffs today are reminants of campsites occupied by travelers watching for bison. In 1868, the construction of the Transcontinental Railroad brought the Union Pacific Railroad as it entered Wyoming Territory. Cattle drives along the Texas Trail brought thousands of head of cattle to the railroad in Pine Bluffs. For a time, more cattle were shipped from Pine Bluffs than from any other location in the country. With the advent of the automobile came the Lincoln Highway, US 30, through Pine Bluffs. In the 1960's, Interstate 80 was built around Pine Bluffs. These various crossroads have given Pine Bluffs the name of
Crossroads of the Frontier.
